The Analog Revival: Things We’re Bringing Back

We’ve slowly realized that we actually miss things from our childhood. Physically touching music, beautifully bound books. Writing things down with a smooth pen. Having our life more curated with real things that we own. That we can pass down. That feel cozy, nostalgic and unique.

Here are some of the things we’ve started to pivot towards and some things on our wish lists.

Vinyl Record Players

We got our record player about a month ago and oh my gosh we‘ve been using it incessantly. The kids are getting involved in putting a new record on, flipping it over and. Listening to whole albums rather than just streaming something that the algorithm set up for you. It really makes you connect with music again. Physical, tangible music. Nothing hits quite like a good record. Plus the record hunt is so enjoyable. We like our audio-technica in bronze. This one has a Bluetooth connection so if you dont have wired speakers, you can still listen to the warmth of a record.

I’ll make a follow up post on the albums we‘ve purchased and are loving.

Beautiful Books

With us pivoting to homeschool I’ve started to put a lot of thought into our library. And as a result, I want it to feel solid, sturdy and timeless along with add beauty into the space. Not only that, but vintage books at used books stores. It’s the feeling of things that have stood the test of time.

For the kids we really love this DK anthology series. They love flipping through and looking at the beautiful images.

We’ve also come across The Folio Society. They make some beautifully bound classics. They are on the pricier side, but this is book goals.

I’ll make a follow up of our books that we’ve collected and that are on the acquisition list.

Analog Watches

I think I just snapped one day and couldn’t wear my Apple Watch anymore. Too many notifications, too much making myself available at all times. Sure it’s good for tracking steps but is my sanity worth steps? Plus let’s be honest…they’re ugly. I went back to my Olivia Burton and Michael Kors watches that I got eons ago.

Polaroid Camera

We got one of these for our wedding years ago. There’s something so wonderful about not knowing what’s going to come out of the camera and a little bit of patience (but not too much à la kodak film). They’re so fun to have around the house. We have one similar to this one. The film is a bit pricey these days but its kind of fun to pass around at a birthday party or a special occasion.

Journal & Pen

There’s something magical about putting pen to paper. Despite trying to digitalize notes at work or putting to-do lists on my phone, there’s still nothing quite like crossing out an item on a list with a nice pen in a day planner or a journal. I’ve gone through several. This one will likely be next for my Journal. And for pens, I am partial to an extremely fine point and I use these Sharpie Pens for everything. But for it to be extra special I do love a fountain pen.
